The SIOPE awareness-raising event to mark INternational Childhood Cancer Day (15 February) will take place this year on Tuesday 7th March 2017 (14h00–16h00) at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, hosted by MEP Elena Gentile, Italy and the S&D Parliamentary Group.
Participants will discuss the activities carried out by the European community spanning policy makers, professionals, parents and patients, industry, and regulators to tackle childhood cancers. It will be an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments, highlight the persisting needs still to be met, and trace the road ahead towards more and better cure for children and adolescents through joint efforts.
The recently voted European Parliament Resolution on Paediatric Medicines – which seeks to improve the EU Regulation on Paediatric Medicines – will be presented as a key milestone.
ICCD 2017 will also follow the closing of the European Commission’s consultation and upcoming 10-year report on the Paediatric Regulation. Finally, it will also take place right after the 5th ACCELERATE Conference (2-3 March 2017), the multi-stakeholder forum where further steps to speed up innovation will be discussed by academia, industry, parents, and regulators.
These and further achievements in multi-stakeholder dialogue and cooperation will be presented and discussed to ensure further positive developments for children and adolescents with cancer across Europe.
Innovative therapies is Objective 1 of the SIOPE Strategic Plan ‘A European Cancer Plan for Children and Adolescents’.
