Marianne Naafs-Wilstra, managing director of VOKK (The Netherlands) and one of the ICCCPO founding members, recently received royal honours as “Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau” for her outstanding work for children with cancer in her country as well as internationally. The medal and document, signed by the Dutch Queen, was handed over by the local mayor on the 6th of April 2013. As this event was kept top secret until the last moment, Marianne Naafs was truly surprised and deeply moved. She said: “Not for myself – but for the public acknowledgement the work we are doing for children with cancer gets with such a decoration, I am happy and grateful to receive it!” Her children and grandchildren, many relatives and friends were part of the ceremony that was nicely (and secretly) organized by the VOKK-staff.
