CCI expands Home Away From Home Programme to help more children stay close to life-saving treatment
Applications open: September 15, 2026.
Treatment only saves lives if the patient is there to receive it.
For many children and adolescents with cancer, specialised treatment is hundreds of kilometres, or even days of travel, from home. Reaching the treatment centre is only the first hurdle. Treatment can last for months, and when there is nowhere for a family to stay, distance can make continuing treatment impossible.
This is the reality that CCI’s Home Away From Home Programme is working to change.
Launched in 2024, in collaboration with Sanofi Foundation, the programme supports CCI member organisations to create and strengthen Homes close to paediatric oncology centres, giving children and their caregivers a place to call home while treatment continues.
And the impact can be life-changing.
A place to call home. A better chance to continue treatment.
Since 2024, Home Away From Home has supported nine CCI member organisations across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe to purchase, build, expand and operate Homes for children undergoing cancer treatment and their caregivers.
These Homes are more than a place to sleep. Depending on local needs, they can provide meals, transportation to hospital, counselling, education, psychosocial support and other services that help children and caregivers navigate months of treatment far from home.
Now, CCI and Sanofi Foundation are opening the third Home Away From Home Call for Proposals, continuing our shared commitment to removing practical barriers that can prevent children from completing treatment.
The 2026–2027 call will primarily support projects in low- and middle-income countries, including upper-middle-income countries, and aims to support at least one project in each of three regions: Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Eligible CCI member organisations can apply for:
Capital Projects — up to €150,000
For the purchase or expansion of a Home, or construction of a new Home subject to additional requirements.Operational Projects — €10,000–€40,000
For rental costs, maintenance, existing operating costs or additional services provided through a Home.
Applications are open from 15 September 2026 and close on 15 December 2026.
